We thought we were past Star Wars blowing our minds.
But apparently the Han Solo, um, solo movie is going to reveal things we never knew about the smuggler/rebel hero made famous by Harrison Ford!
During a talk at USC, Disney CEO Bob Iger was begged by his journalist wife Willow Bay for a scoop on the space opera franchise’s future.
Even though he wouldn’t reveal ANY new deets about this December’s The Last Jedi, not even to the Mrs., he did answer one big question about Carrie Fisher‘s performance as Princess Leia, which had reportedly been completed before her tragic death.
“She appears throughout VIII. And what I can say about that is, we’re not changing VIII to deal with her passing. So her performance, which we’re really pleased with, remains as it was in VIII.”
But will she be revived in the uncanny valley a la Rogue One? Iger has a definitive answer there too:
“We’re not doing that with Carrie.”
Whew! As far as what’s beyond that? For Leia and everyone else?
“[We’re] just starting to talk about what happens to Star Wars after IX. We have a creative team thinking about what could be another decade and a half on Star Wars stories.”
OK, so typically tightlipped studio answers. Except when he spoke about the Han Solo spinoff movie, that is — then he was dropping gems (kyber crystals?) left and right!
“That picks up Han Solo when he was 18 years old and takes him through when he was 24. There were a few things that happened [that were] significant in Han Solo’s life, like acquiring a certain vehicle and meeting a certain Wookiee, that will happen in this film. But you’ll also discover how he got his name.”
Um, what?? His name isn’t Han Solo???
We guess it makes sense for a criminal to pull a Dread Pirate Roberts, but damn! We had never thought of that!
What do YOU think of this reveal?
